Benedict John Angell was a wealthy landowner from Shoreditch London. In 1797 he married Ann Hayward from Uxbridge in London.
Not long after their marriage, Benedict had Rumsey House built for him and his wife on Black Dog Hill, Studley. Ann and Benedict moved into their new house around 1800. They also kept a house in Stockwell, London - Stockwell Park House that was knocked down in the 1880's. The site is now London's oldest skateboarding park - just opposite the O2 Brixton Arena.
Rumsey house became a focal point for their life. Benedict and Ann had six children there. Benedict and Ann are buried together at Christchurch, Derry Hill (alongside their son John). Inside the church is a large monument to BJA Angell. The grave is not too far from the Lord and Lady Walter Hervey (Lady Hervey with her black Rolls-Royce) who later lived in Rumsey House.
